Mentone is located 21 km south-east of the CBD. Located in Melbourne's south Mentone is a mixed use bayside suburb. The suburb features significant commercial areas centred around the Mentone railway station while some industrial areas occupy the north. Like a number of suburbs in this part of Melbourne the population has decreased and aged significantly over the 1981-1996 period. The suburb is also comprised of mainly one and two person households. The City of Kingston council offices are based at Mentone.
